War Propaganda: The Hollywood industry used as a weapon for supporting interventions in the Arab world

The Hollywood film industry provides the public with an opportunity to find an escape from reality and even, at times, education themselves. Given the popularity of movies, the message presented in the pictures is bound to have an effect on public perception. According to the Motion Picture Association of America (2012), U.S./Canada box office receipts in 2012 reached $10.8 billion with 1.38 billion movie tickets were sold (MPAA 2013). Furthermore, Business Wire (2012) reports that average subscriber of the popular movie rental and streaming service Netflix watches an average of 3.4 movies per week. This amounts to a lot of exposure to Hollywood movies, which beyond its entertainment value also potentially opens the door to stereotyping.

Despite popular belief that the strategy allows businesses to gain, motives and effects of mergers and acquisitions are thought to vary among organisations. In the light of this, the proposed research intends to establish the motives and effects of mergers and acquisitions. In order to address the study objective, I intend to use secondary data from sources, such as the Yahoo Finance. Based on the data, the efficiency ratio (EFF), rate of return on investments (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) will be computed to allow for making inferences.
